The 1st Ibero-American Congress on Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creation of Value in Emerging Spaces, 5thMagallanes-Elcano Centenary will be held on 18, 19 and 20 September at the Barceló Sevilla Renacimiento Hotel. This is the first large international congress to be held in Seville after the end of the stricter restrictions of the Sate of Alarm and ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño (APD) is the company responsible for the design, technical implementation and production of the event.

The programme of the congress, that will be inaugurated by the mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas, includes 40 international projects that, commemorating the 5th Centenary of the voyage around the world of Magallanes and Elcano, will try to provide a response to the most significant challenges faced by society within the context of globalisation and the current health crisis.

The new world that came about after the historical expedition made by Magallanes and Elcano has served as an inspiration and starting point for promoting and disseminating social strategies at the event that are deemed necessary for surviving and adapting to the new era that will come after the pandemic.

This post-Covid horizon will serve as the basis for talks that will focus on a change of production model in all sectors of society. The attendees will be able to discover a wide range of initiatives such as “Mujereando” (Being a Woman) by Carmen Tamayo –that uses theatre as a therapy for homeless women-, “Socially Responsible Masks” by Miguel Ángel López –who collaborated in manufacturing the material needed for masks in 105 countries- and other projects that aim to achieve the cooperation of governments and companies for providing a common and efficient response to the pandemic. Projects such as the Innovation Path and Evolving and the Airbus’s Urban Transport Mobility will also be presented, which will emphasise the technological component as an essential tool for improving the educational sector, mobility or the detection of diseases in public health, among other ideas that aim to contribute to social development all over the planet.

The event will have a total of 43 speakers and will be held in a blended format, whereby half of the speakers will participate in person in Seville and the rest will do so virtually from places such as London (United Kingdom), Lisbon, Costa Rica or Mexico. 150 participants will also attend the event in situ and a further 500 have registered to attend online and will be able to follow the congress via streaming from their homes.

APD is responsible for the design, technical implementation and integrated production of the congress, for which it has undertaken the creation of the corporate image and its application on the various supports and spaces of the event, development of the spatial implementation and technical equipment, digital management platform (sending invitations, access control by means of a QR code, project hosting, etc.), web development, production, logistics, assembly and dismantling of all the elements necessary for holding the event.

The Ibero-American Social Innovation Congress has been designed following the safety measures recommended by the Ministry of Health. To this regard, APD’s experience in the organisation of world-scale events has played a key role in guaranteeing the safety of those attending the congress.

A carbon neutral event

Like all the ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño events, this is a ‘carbon neutral’ event. The CO2 emissions related to holding the congress will therefore be calculated to be offset with the OAXACAS clean energy project in Mexico, so that the final balance of emissions equals zero. In addition, the high environmental contribution this action represents -the project prevents an annual emission of between 230,000 and 250,000 tCO2-, offsetting of the carbon footprint involves numerous social promotion initiatives to benefit the local community, -mostly members of the Zapotec indigenous peoples, including reforestation work, promoting the production of handcrafts, educational and professional training programmes, enhancing local infrastructures and promoting self-employment initiatives.
